As the end looms ever nearer, here’s what I got up to on day 3.
Sunday 18th
Day 3 began with another round off the superbly brilliant Battlefield 3, we then made a list of some of the titles that we’d like to cover on our final day, and the following is the ones we managed to cover.
Mass Effect 3
As this was a relatively small demo for what will be such a big game it’s hard for me to comment too much on this game but I will do my best anyway.
In my opinion graphically it wasn’t much different from number 2 but still looked very crisp and polished, the control system is also identical to number 2 (why fix something if it isn’t broken).
Unfortunately there was no usage of Kinect on display so I’m unable to comment on how that looked and worked.
The pace of the game did appear to be slightly quicker yet again, and the fire fights were again even more epic and intense. Just from playing this small section of game you can tell the story is going to be equally as epic as before and will be the perfect end to a trilogy.
One other this I noticed is that the environment did appear to be more destructible, making the player think more about their usage of cover and how they go about entering a fire fight, all of this combined just shows how Mass Effect is once again going to show why it is the king of 3rd person RPG’s.
Forza 4
As some people may know, Forza 3 is the only racing game that I have played that I have actually enjoyed, so waiting in line for this one my anticipation levels were high, and boy was I not disappointed.
The cars were stunning, the track was stunning, the scenery was stunning, and this game was stunning! The way the sun reflected off the roof of your car as you came round the mountain made my jaw drop to the floor (and crash into the side destroying my engine) but this was not a bad thing as it allowed me to take in the breath-taking scenery of this game even more.
As well as looking great the cars also handled great, both with a pad and with the new wireless wheel that was on show, which just added to the stunning nature of this game.
Unfortunately there was no Kinect capability on show so the garage was not on show, which was a shame, even though I don’t have a Kinect at home I still wanted to try out the garage and look around the insides of the cars.
The team behind Forza have clearly picked up where they left off and have again created a superbly brilliant racing simulator which I will again be picking up.
Uncharted 3 MP
Now as a big fan of the previous Uncharted games I was a tad sceptical going into this demo because I generally find that any game that has a heavy single player focus and then suddenly go into multiplayer it generally turns out a bit lacklustre.
I am pleased to say that this was not the case with Uncharted 3. The multiplayer was great fun, the gun fights were intense, and the intensity was added to by the chase of an enemy across rooftops before dropping down on them and blowing them away with your RPG.
Visually this game was good. It didn’t look too different from among Among thieves Thieves but still looked great. The visuals got really gritty when the sandstorm hit in the middle of a round which made vision really hard but again added to the intensity of the game seeing shadows running around in the storm trying to work out they were friend or foe because the team indicators went away during that time.
Before the game we had a chance to look through the menus and found the vast amount of character customisation that will be available to the player in the full game.
To summarise Uncharted 3 is going to be a great game. The multiplayer could probably still do with a bit of work but from what I played it’s full of promise and the potential to rival Assassins Creed on the PS3.
……….
And there we have it that concludes my time ate GAMEfest, there were a few titles that I was unable to see which was a shame but did not take away from the awesome time that I had over the weekend.
All in all GAME put on a fantastic weekend for their first attempt at a games convention and I loved every minute of it. I played some great games, met some awesome people, ate far too much subway, and knackered myself out beyond belief, but with all that said I would do it all again tomorrow.
Bring on GAMEfest 2012!

Sadly I havent played any of the Mass Effect games (yet) but you’ve prompted me to look into the series now.
I was interested to read what you thought of Forza 4, and I’m sure everyone will breathe a deep sigh of relief at your kudos of the game.
James, you’ve done a great 3 day review for us, and this last article is a great wrap-up to the event. Thank you once again!
